SCUM is an informal association of professional, student, and amateur malacologists and molluscan paleontologists who are interested in molluscan research. The purpose of the annual gatherings is to foster communication and keep one another informed of research activities and opportunities. There are no dues, no officers, and no publications.
The meeting will begin at 9:00 am with a round of introductions, short statements of our interests, and updates from the previous year. Attendees are also invited to give formal presentations, limited to 10 minutes including questions.
There will be coffee and refreshments starting at 8:30 am, a lunch break, and coffee and pastries in the afternoon. SIO tour offerings will depend on attendee numbers and timing.
Parking near the SIO campus is challenging, so we encourage carpooling. Please plan to arrive early and be mindful of posted restrictions. Street parking is available south of campus in the vicinity of El Paseo Grande, Paseo Del Ocaso, La Jolla Shores Drive, and side streets, but note that the area is heavily trafficked by beachgoers.
Parking on SIO campus lots requires a permit, with the exception of wheelchair-accessible spaces. You can order a 1-day SIO parking pass for $8 when you RSVP. This pass is valid in any SIO parking lot, but it does not guarantee an available space, so please leave yourself enough time in case you need to try multiple parking lots. Please note that parking passes cannot be ordered after the RSVP date because they require advance approval.
The parking lots for our conference building are Hubbs Hall Lower (P007, 8750 Biological Grade, see map) and Hubbs Hall Upper (P008, 8752 Biological Grade). If you order a parking pass, please stop by the Hubbs Hall Upper Lot (P008) to pick up your pass and pay before 9:00 am.
Wheelchair-accessible parking is available in all lots (no SIO permit required).

Lunch will be catered from Rubio’s Coastal Grill. Each lunch box includes a burrito (your choice of veggie, chicken, or steak), pinto beans, tortilla chips, salsa, and a chocolate chip oatmeal cookie. The cost is $15, to be paid in cash at the meeting. Lunch must be ordered in advance, so please include your order in your RSVP.
You are also welcome to bring your own lunch or make other arrangements. The two options within walking distance of campus are Caroline’s Seaside Café and Splash! Café at the Birch Aquarium, but note that both are popular on weekends.

If yes, please include your preliminary title or topic for our program.

If you RSVP after this date, you would need to make your own parking and lunch arrangements.
