Optical-Biological Interactions in the Ocean

Course Description: 
A discussion class with emphasis on the interaction of light with marine plankton. Topics will include light absorption, fluorescence, and scattering by phytoplankton and effects of growth conditions on phytoplankton optical properties. Classic and contemporary papers dealing with these topics will be discussed. (S/U grades only.)

basic physics and biology, or consent of instructor.
