Speaker:  Heechun Song, Marine Physical Laboratory, Scripps Institution of Oceanography.

Title: The mystery of a striation pattern observed in surface-reflected acoustic signals.

Abstract: During a recent shallow water (~100m) experiment, a mysterious striation pattern was observed from high-frequency acoustic signals (7-13 kHz) between a source moored at the bottom and a receiver near the surface, separated by about 500 m.  Further, the striation runs in opposite directions, depending on the surface wave direction.  This talk aims to unravel the origin of the striation using a ray-tracing model and reproduce the striation pattern consistent with the experimental data.
