CASPO Seminar: Geoffrey Vallis

06/13/2018 - 3:30pm
Location:
Nierenberg Hall 101
Event Description:

Topic: Rainy-Benard Convection

Abstract: Moist atmospheric convection is very complex, involving the phase changes, clouds, fluid dynamics, radiation, turbulence and more. It is typically studied with very complicated models and is not well understood. Rayleigh-Benard convection is a much simpler system that displays convection in an austere form, yet is regarded as having little relevance to the atmosphere. In this talk I will attempt to bridge the gap between these two systems.
