Coral Reef Research in the Maldives

02/11/2014 - 12:30pm to 1:30pm

CMBC Brown Bag
February 11, 2014
12:30 - 1:30 p.m.
4500 Hubbs Hall
Speakers: Levi Lewis and Jill Harris

The Maldives were the epicenter of the worst coral bleaching event on record in 1998. This summer, Levi and Jill traveled there to investigate how reefs have fared in the 15 years since the bleaching. Working from a brand new marine research lab on a remote, sparsely inhabited atoll, they conducted rapid assessments of ecological health across a broad section of reefs. They'll discuss both the ecology of Maldivian reefs and the experience of working from a new field station.
