Plate Tectonics Symposium at SIO

05/09/2018 (All day) to 05/10/2018 (All day)

We will celebrate the 50 years of SIO's contributions to advancing the theory of Plate Tectonics with a symposium on May 9-10, 2018. Of the many people and institutions involved in the “Plate Tectonics Revolution” of the late 60’s and early 70’s, a notable portion were SIO graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. This student-led, two-day celebration will feature shared talks, panel discussions (including a panel featuring women geoscientists), a lunch to connect alumni and current students, and a poster session social hour! Confirmed speakers include Dan McKenzie, Roger Anderson, Tanya Atwater, Bob Parker, and many others. A detailed schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.

We invite you to come share in this momentous celebration. Please visit https://scripps.ucsd.edu/symposiums/tectonics/ to RSVP.

If you have any questions about our event, logistical or otherwise, feel free to contact us at sioplatetectonics50@gmail.com. We look forward to seeing you in May!

Sincerely,

John Sclater and the Symposium Organizing Committee

Jessie Saunders, Carrie McIntosh, Emily Wei, Adina Pusok, Ishita Pal, Kathryn Durkin, Brian Oller, and Travis Clow
