State of the Climate: Southern Ocean Discussion

This year, for the first time, there will be a Southern Ocean section in the annual BAMS  "State of the Climate" report. This 2014 assessment can be improved, and a workshop has been organized (http://soos.aq/calendar?view=event&cid=78) to make sure subsequent reports are done with full community input. The meeting will be in Hobart, however, and thus many SIO Southern Ocean researchers will not attend. The purpose of this Polar Seminar is to give a brief introduction to the 2014 report, and then gather information from the SIO Southern Ocean community on how to improve future reports. Questions to be discussed include:
(1) What are the available datasets for assessing the state of the Southern Ocean Climate?
(2) What are the proper data analysis methods for assessment?
(3) How do we identify and fill important gaps?
