Songs from the Sea

E.W. Scripps Associates Presents
Behind-the-Scenes at Scripps

“Songs From The Sea”

Wednesday, May 18th 2016 5:00 – 7:30 PM
Scripps Whale Acoustics Lab, Ritter Hall, Scripps Oceanography

Dive into a world filled with melody and mystery. Marine mammals communicate using clicks, whistles and pulses, but what are they actually saying and what can we learn about these creatures and their environment by studying these sounds? Come hear firsthand how Scripps Scientists are using acoustic instrumentation to hear these creatures and answer questions relating to population decline, dialect, behavior and ocean health.

During the evening you will have an opportunity to visit Scripps Oceanography laboratories that focus on the study of marine mammal population, seasonality and behavior using varying acoustic techniques. You will have time to interact and ask questions of whale acoustic experts Dr. John Hildebrand, Dr. Ana Sirovic and Simone Baumann-Pickering.

$35 for E.W. Scripps Associates and Friends of the Collections members and guests of members

$65 for general public
