Privacy Policies Relating to Children
Children’s privacy is important to us, and as such, we have additional policies and procedures relating to the collection of information from children under the age of 13. We encourage parents to explore our website with their children.
Although many aspects of our website may be utilized without providing any personally identifiable information, other features do require users to provide the following information directly to us: first name, first initial of last name, email address, parent’s or guardian’s email address, age, and city of residence. Even with respect to this information, we do not knowingly collect such information from children under the age of 13 without parental notification and consent.
Specifically, when a child who identifies himself/herself as under the age of 13 seeks to actively register with our site, we promptly send the parent or guardian an email in order to request their permission to collect and maintain the child’s first name, first initial of last name, email address, parent’s or guardian’s email address, age, and city of residence. Thereafter, if we do not receive a response email from the parent or guardian within fourteen (14) calendar days granting permission to collect and maintain the child’s first name, first initial of last name, email address, parent’s or guardian’s email address, age, and city of residence, we will promptly delete such information from our system. This information is used by us for purposes of identifying those users who submit questions to us (through our website) for possible use in our published materials, and to provide us with information that assists us in potentially providing answers to those questions that are both age and reading level appropriate. Email addresses provided to us are used solely for purposes of obtaining consent and/or notifying a user and/or parent/guardian in the event that a user’s question is selected for inclusion in our published materials.
This website does not offer activities that allow children, or us, to disclose their personal information publicly (such as through chat rooms or message boards). If a user’s question is selected for inclusion in our published materials, while we may publicly disclose a child’s first name, first initial of last name, age, and city of residence (including publicly disclosing such information together in our published materials), we will not publicly disclose a child’s, parent’s, and/or guardian’s email address or last name.
We do not share children’s personally identifiable information with outside third parties.
We do not condition a child’s participation in an activity on the child’s disclosing more personal information than is reasonably necessary to participate in such activity.
For parents of children under the age of 13 who may be using our site, if you want to review personally identifiable information about your child that we have collected and maintained, if you have any questions about personally identifiable information that we may have collected or maintained, and/or if you want us to delete or change any of that information, please contact us (as indicated below).
