E.W. Scripps Associates

Be a Partner in Exploration

E.W. Scripps Associates (EWSA) is a premier group of annual donors who make a difference in the global research conducted by Scripps Institution of Oceanography scientists. Members learn about ocean, earth, and climate science first-hand from Scripps scientists at "behind-the-scenes" events and are given special access to Birch Aquarium at Scripps. Please join us in protecting our planet for future generations.

As part of the 2015 San Diego Festival of Science and Engineering, E.W. Scripps Associates is hosting

Behind-the-Scenes at Scripps:
Thursday, March 19, 2015
Martin Johnson House

Labs featured include: Hydraulics Laboratory, which offers many testing facilities including a wind-wave channel, two flow channels, three pressure testing vessels, and a deep tank, and the Coastal Data Information Program (CDIP), which specializes in wave measurement, swell modeling and forecasting, and the analysis of coastal environment data. We’ll also be joined by the creators of Squidtoons comics.

We have a new addition to the event:

Professor Bewley, Director of the UCSD Flow Control & Coordinated Robotics Labs at the Jacobs School of Engineering will give a short talk titled 'Coordinated Squads of Robotic Systems for Large-Scale Environmental Sensing'. Several prototype, consumer, and educational robotic systems from his lab will also be on display, and Professor Bewley will be available to discuss where the lab is headed with such systems.

Our E.W. Scripps Associates had the opportunity to tour R/V Melville in February 2014 (photo gallery), which was docked at the Scripps Nimitz Marine Facility in Point Loma. This facility is the support and management center for the Scripps fleet of research vessels, and is one of the largest operating bases at any oceanographic institution. You may also click on the image gallery on the right side of the screen to view photos from this and other EWSA events.
