Friends of Birch Aquarium is an annual giving society furthering youth, access, and education through philanthropic support of the aquarium's mission. Gifts of $1,000 or more from Friends of Birch Aquarium support the most pressing and critical needs of the aquarium:
- Exhibitions – Development, installation, and maintenance of the Aquarium’s tanks and tide pools, and seed funding for new exhibits.
- Education – Curriculum, materials, and staff for the Discovery Lab, Beach Teach program, and Aquarium Express Vans.
Access – Community outreach enabling underserved groups and schools to visit the Aquarium.
Birch Aquarium at Scripps, the public exploration center for Scripps Institution of Oceanography, receives no direct state or city support and relies on earned income and gifts to operate our exhibit and education programs. Help us inspire tomorrow's ocean leaders.
Birch Aquarium at Scripps members enjoy unlimited free admission to Birch Aquarium at Scripps as well a discounts on purchases and educational programs—all while providing valuable support for Scripps’ research and education programs.
Memberships start at $55 per year.
