The Climate Science and Policy (CSP) degree program is self-supporting and does not receive state funding. While students are eligible for federal loans and extramural scholarships, this means that TA and Graduate Assistant funding is not available.
Cost for the CSP program is approximately $41,000, which includes all program instruction, administrative fees, and health insurance. Program cost does not include books, parking, and incidentals. Students should also budget for housing and transportation costs.
There are many scholarship opportunities that we highly encourage students to explore and apply to. Funding opportunities are available through a number of outside agencies, such as NOAA, NASA, non-government organizations, and foundations with interests in climate science and policy. Remember - many scholarships have application deadlines in Fall, so begin your search early!
Additional funding options can include:
- Loans - commercial bank loans and government loans are available
- Peace Corps or AmeriCorps Stipend
- Employer Sponsorship
- Military Benefits
U.S. Military Service Members and Veterans
The MAS CSP program supports the educational needs of active duty and reserve officers. This advanced professional degree program provides both fundamental science training and applied skills that are relevant for military leadership positions as well as post-service employment.
The Scripps graduate program has a long history of educating current and former military officers about climate science and of engaging students in military-relevant research projects. Veterans have used this new professional degree program as an opportunity to transfer their experience to new fields and obtain a new integrated set of skills geared towards transitioning to civilian career options.
Active duty service members and veterans will find a comprehensive support network throughout San Diego. Twelve prominent military installations across the county provide personnel services, MWR facilities, medical care, commissary and exchange benefits. Additional campus resources can be found here:
- As of September 2015, UC San Diego offers a graduate application fee waiver to all U.S. veterans and active duty U.S. military personnel. Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
