The Masters of Advanced Studies (MAS) in Marine Biodiversity and Conservation (MBC) prepares students for interdisciplinary careers in non-governmental, governmental, and private-sector positions.

Graduates of the MAS-MBC program have also used their credential to move into advanced degree programs or academic research. Our program has a strong record of placement in the National Sea Grant College Program Dean John A. Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship and California Sea Grant State Fellows Program. These fellowships are highly competitive and place students in influential national and state positions, respectively, where they can network, learn, and make a difference in ocean conservation.

Half of the 100 graduates trained to date have been placed in government or non-profits positions. About a quarter are pursuing careers in industry or academic research. The remaining pursue a PhD or another path.

The MAS program maintains contact with program alumni through an email list and a network list-serve led by two MAS program graduates. Alumni share their successes and job opportunities through the network with current students and program alumni seeking employment.
