December 2013 — April 2014
This winter, locals and visitors to San Diego are invited to experience the annual epic journey of gray whales with Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego. Whale watchers can enjoy daily local whale-watching cruises featuring aquarium naturalists.
The public is invited to participate in a cruise and witness the longest mammal migration in the world, when approximately 20,000 gray whales pass San Diego on their 10,000-mile round-trip journey from their Bering Sea feeding grounds to Baja California’s lagoons. Once there, the whales will play, rest, breed, and give birth.
An exclusive whale-watching expedition to Baja California, Mexico, is also being offered for Birch Aquarium members this season.
