Discussion topics addressed during the visit included ocean and earth science education, including a gift from Robert and Allison Price, through Price Philanthropies, to Birch Aquarium at Scripps for outreach and education programs to inspire San Diego County students in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) fields; as well as Birch Aquarium’s growing emphasis on highlighting Scripps research expeditions, which will begin this fall with an interactive gallery that immerses visitors in the experience of conducting research at sea aboard research vessel Sally Ride, America’s newest research vessel that was recently delivered from the U.S. Navy, the vessel’s owner, to Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego, the ship’s operator.
