Research Interests

I am interested in the mid-latitude dynamics of the atmosphere. Specifically, I study the circulations associated with atmospheric rivers, cold fronts, and extratropical cyclones. I have been a part of three field campaigns which involved hundreds of weather balloons, installed ground based instruments, and flew dozens of aircraft through storms. These observations are used for basic scientific research as well as to initialize numerical weather models to help get the best possible forecast to inform the public as well as resource managers. I also use numerical weather models to diagnose the details of individual weather events. Since each storm is unique in some way, I believe that there is much to be gained from case by case analyses.
