UC San Diego's Scripps Institution of Oceanography leads the development of novel sensors and platforms, including autonomous underwater vehicles, floats, and sea-floor, terrestrial and atmospheric instrumentation that provide critical information about the changing environment.

Scripps scientists also develop innovative technologies such as algal biofuels, marine natural products for biomedicine, and real-time monitoring networks, as well as techniques for data analysis and modeling.
