Interfaces

A wave is the interface of ocean, land, air, and sunlight.

A wave is the interface of ocean, land, air, and sunlight.

Physical, chemical, and biological processes at interfaces play an important role in global environmental systems. Scripps researchers are engaged in studies of these boundaries at a variety of scales, from plate boundaries and oceanic boundary currents to the details of air-sea gas exchange and chemical transport across cell membranes.

Such studies often involve collaboration among scientific disciplines and, increasingly, interactions with the social sciences.
