Bio

Kara Voss is a graduate student researcher pursuing her PhD at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego in the Climate Science curricular group, advised by Dr. Amato Evan. Her research within the Center for Western Weather and Water Extremes (CW3E) focuses on mineral dust aerosol and it’s impact on cloud microphysics and precipitation associated with atmospheric river events. Kara received her B.S. in Chemistry and Marine Science from the University of Miami Rosensteil School for Marine and Atmospheric Science (UM-RSMAS). She has a growing interest in science policy, and organizes biweekly discussions for members of the SIO and UCSD community to make connections between ongoing research and policy. In addition, she has been an instructor for the Global Leadership in Environmental Sustainability (GELS) program, which allows high school students an opportunity to learn about earth sciences and facilitates meetings of students with their Representatives in Washington D.C. to encourage science-based policy decisions. After completing her graduate studies, she hopes to continue in a career that facilitates scientific research in leading to tangible positive change.
