Safety at Scripps

The Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) operates its Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) program in close collaboration with UC San Diego’s EH&S division. Together, these programs work seamlessly to support the mission of the UC Office of the President (UCOP) in maintaining a cohesive, systemwide EH&S framework. By integrating expertise in environmental protection, occupational health, and industrial safety, SIO-EH&S and UCSD-EH&S provide a unified approach to safeguarding the wellbeing of the entire UC San Diego community.

At Scripps, safety is a shared responsibility among all faculty, staff, students, and volunteers. The SIO EH&S office is dedicated to fostering a culture of safety through awareness, clear communication, ongoing consultation, and strict adherence to compliance standards. By working collaboratively, SIO-EH&S and UCSD-EH&S ensure a safe and supportive environment for all research, educational, and operational activities.
