A Vermont native, he graduated from UVM in 1999 with a BS in Environmental Science and an interest in oceanography. He quickly dove into science in his first job at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution as a research assistant finishing up a multi-year dataset for the World Ocean Circulation Experiment (WOCE) at the National Ocean Sciences AMS facility. While out on a research cruise for a WHOI scientist on the Scripps ship New Horizon, he fell in love with San Diego and moved there in 2001. Ross has been managing the Severinghaus lab since 2002.
