CalWave - Updates on open ocean pilot of a wave energy converter off SIO research pier Q3/21
The goal of this U.S. DOE R&D project is to conduct an ocean pilot of a scaled wave energy converter. The fully submerged system is converting the reciprocating motion of a buoyant body, driven by ocean waves, into electrical energy and supplied back to shore via a temporary cable landing on the Scripps pier.
During the testing period from August 2021 to February 2022, CalWave is offering opportunities to add research to our wave demonstration campaign.
Projects can include: Sensor testing, instrumentation to be added to device or alongside deployment e.g. on anchors or other, powering of sensors using a wave energy device, demonstration/testing of AUV charging using CalWave’s wave energy converter as a power source, energy storage and communications unit e.g. for a remote fully autonomous instrumentation station that could include a fully resident AUV.
