UC San Diego's Scripps Institution of Oceanography is working with naval architects to design a first-of-its-kind research vessel with a hydrogen-hybrid propulsion system capable of zero emissions.
California legislators allocated $35 million towards the design and construction of the vessel last summer. When complete, the ship will serve as a platform for education and research dedicated to understanding the California coast and climate change impacts to the coastal ecosystem.
Cleantech San Diego members are invited to join Bruce Appelgate, Associate Director and Head of Ship Operations at Scripps Oceanography, to learn about the innovative hybrid-hydrogen ship and the cutting-edge research it will enable.
