Assistance Programs

Faculty and Staff Assistance Program - Offers services and resources to help individuals and departments with a range of issues, including trauma recovery, wellness, grief and violence.

Faculty Housing Assistance Programs - The University of California and UC San Diego offer housing programs to assist with recruitment and retention of Academic Senate Faculty. Eligibility will be stated in your offer letter at time of recruitment.

Awards

Academic Senate Distinguished Teaching and Research Awards - Each year the Academic Senate solicits nominations for the Distinguished Teaching and Distinguished Research awards. Applications are evaluated by the Committee on Senate Awards. Visit the individual award pages for more information and listings of past recipients.

Childcare

Review Academic Affairs’ family accommodation policies and programs to help balance the needs of an academic career and family.

Childcare resources include part- and full-time day care, camps, recreation programs, a lactation program, and referrals to area child care providers.

San Diego Supercomputer Center Training and Workshops - SDSC offers industry partners, researchers, educators, and students the opportunity to strengthen their skills and knowledge in High-Performance and Data-Intensive Computing, as well as in many other fields in technology and science.

Family Accommodations

Family Accommodation Policies and Programs - The University of California and UC San Diego are committed to helping academic appointees balance the needs of career and family. Major strides have been made in recent years to increase family accommodations policies, family-friendly programs, and work/life benefits. Faculty housing assistance includes the Mortgage Origination Program and the Faculty Recruitment Allowance Program (eligibility is limited).

Faculty Resources - Interfolio offers enhanced “faculty-first” higher education technology for faculty review, tenure, promotion, and activity reporting. 

Leave of Absence Policy

Academic Appointees with academic-year appointments are expected to be in residence from the first day of the fall quarter through the last day of the spring quarter, except during official University holidays. Fiscal year appointees are in service to the university throughout the year, except during official University holidays.

The UC San Diego Academic and Administrative Calendar lists each academic year service period and the official university holidays that apply to all. Please note: Intersession days between quarters that are not designated official holidays are considered service days.
