Mandatory Administrative Training
- UC Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment Prevention Training for Supervisors and Faculty (Required)

Who must complete: All faculty and most other academic appointees, regardless of supervisory responsibilities.
How: Take the online training using the individualized link sent to you by the UC Learning Center. If you have lost your individualized link, email uclearningcenter@ucop.edu and ask that it be re-sent.
How Long: Two hours
When: Every two years. New academic appointees have six months in which to complete the initial training. Continuing employees will receive an e-mail notification on the two-year anniversary of their previous compliance and will be given 90 days to satisfy the requirement.

- Compliance Briefing: UC Ethical Values and Conduct (Required)

Who must complete: All University of California employees. (However, researchers may instead take the compliance briefing for researchers, listed below.)
How: Take the online training using the individualized link sent by the UC Learning Center. If you have lost your individualized link, email uclearningcenter@ucop.edu and ask that it be re-sent.
How long: 30 minutes
When: Must be taken every year. An email reminder will be sent yearly. Once notified, employees have one year to complete the training.

- Compliance Briefing: UC Ethical Values and Conduct and Conflict of Interest for Researchers (required for research employees)

Who must complete: University research employees (faculty, staff, and post-docs). Note: Satisfies funding agency requirements to train researchers on conflict of interest in the research setting.
How: Take the online training using the individualized link sent by the UC Learning Center. If you have lost your individualized ink, email uclearningcenter@ucop.edu and ask that it be re-sent.
How long: Approximately 40 to 60 minutes
When: Must be taken every year. An email reminder will be sent on the anniversary of completion.

- UC Cyber Security Awareness Fundamentals

Who must complete: As part of the University’s efforts to address the increasing threats to the security of information systems and data, you have been assigned this security awareness training program, required of faculty and staff at all UC locations.

The Teaching + Learning Commons is the Executive Vice Chancellor’s executive branch for advancing teaching and learning excellence via two synergistic programmatic strands: instructional development for educators and student academic support.
The establishment of the Commons is a direct outcome of the UC San Diego Strategic Plan and the UC San Diego’s Education Initiative.

Through its wide range of programs, services, and research, the Commons assists all members of the UC San Diego community in developing learning environments and experiences of their students that encourage engagement and foster student success.
Academic Family Accommodation Program
The University of California and UC San Diego are committed to helping academic appointees balance the needs of career and family. Major strides have been made in recent years to increase family accommodations policies, family-friendly programs, and work/life benefits. Check out UC San Diego’s family accommodation policies and local and university family-friendly and work/life programs and services.
Family accommodation leaves and benefits are reported or requested (depending on the benefit) on the UC San Diego Family Accommodations Reporting (FAR) form.
- Assistance Programs

DisAbility Counseling and Consulting (DCC) assists with job accommodations, vocational rehabilitation, and other disability-related issues.
Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) offers individual counseling as well as classes and seminars. FSAP also offers eldercare resources. The Ombuds Office facilitates communication and assists people with concerns that arise at the university. Get help with conflict management and resolution.
- Campus Dependent Care Travel Grant

UC San Diego is committed to supporting the family needs of UC San Diego Academic Senate faculty. Through the Dependent Care Travel Grant program (DCTG), UC San Diego provides funding to help offset costs for eligible faculty who incur dependent care expenses related to traveling to perform research or to attend regional, national, or international conferences or professional meetings. DCTG funds may be used to offset dependent care expenses at an alternate location, such as a hotel or conference site, or for dependent care at home while the faculty member is traveling. Eligible faculty members may receive one IEVC-funded dependent care travel grant per fiscal year, not exceeding $2500 total.
- Scripps Dependent Care Travel Grant

The Vice Chancellor for Marine Sciences (VCMS) is committed to promoting academic excellence by supporting the family needs of Scripps Researchers and Project Scientists. Researchers and Project Scientists are not covered by the Academic Senate Dependent Care Travel Grant (DCTG) program (noted above) but are eligible under the Scripps program. Scripps has established a Dependent Care Travel Grant (DCTG) program and is providing $25,000 annually to help offset costs for eligible researchers and project scientists who incur dependent care expenses while traveling to perform research or to attend regional, national, or international conferences or professional meetings. DCTG funds may be used to offset dependent care expenses at an alternate location, such as a hotel or conference site, or for dependent care at home while the researcher is traveling. Eligible participants may receive one VCMS-funded dependent care travel grant per fiscal year, not exceeding $2500 total. The application form can be found here.

Transportation Services provides information to many transportation options. If you plan to park, under University of California policy you must have a valid parking permit associated with your license plate or choose daily or hourly visitor parking. You can avoid parking by using alternative transportation.

For faculty and staff: FaSt Pass and COASTER Pass for Faculty and StaffNew UC San Diego faculty and 100% career staff employees are eligible for 15 calendar days of complimentary parking. Each new career employee will receive one complimentary permit only. You can obtain your free 15-day parking permit online or in the parking office.
If you don’t mind the walk, you can save money by forgoing the permit and parking on La Jolla Shores or other surface streets. However, be aware that break ins and smashed windows are relatively common on La Jolla Shores, so don’t leave anything valuable in your car.

There are a large number of public email lists at Scripps where you can choose to get seminar announcements, learn about housing rentals, etc. When you first arrive, we recommend that you sign up for All-at-SIO and scan the options for additional lists that make sense for you. All faculty are automatically included in the acad@sio.ucsd.edu email (your inclusion is derived from the Scripps People Database). If you find you are not receiving the emails to the acad@sio group, let your business office know so they can verify your information is correct and assist you in resolving. If you ever find yourself not getting important emails that your colleagues seem to get, it’s likely because you are not signed up for the right email lists. If you need help, contact siohelp@ucsd.edu.

Scripps no longer has a separate library. However, you may request books for the main library and have them delivered to the Scripps department office for your pick up.
- Birch Aquarium Faculty Complimentary Membership

As a special welcome from Birch Aquarium at Scripps, new faculty at Scripps are greeted with a complimentary one-year family membership that covers admission for the new faculty member, one additional adult, plus 2 children. To receive the membership card along with 4 guest passes, new faculty should present their Scripps Faculty ID card at the Birch Aquarium Visitor Services office. After the complimentary first year, faculty may renew their BAS membership at a discounted rate.

The Robert Paine Scripps Forum for Science, Society and the Environment (Scripps Forum) is a resource for all Scripps faculty, students, and staff. The forum provides a state-of-the-art facility that celebrates our unrivaled coastal environment. The forum’s waterfront location is the perfect environment to showcase our research, education, and community programs, as well as foster ties to UC San Diego campus divisions and departments. It is used regularly for weddings and celebrations, conferences and symposiums, seminars, business meetings, science and professional events, program planning, and community-wide events. The Martin Johnson House is a historic oceanfront cottage built and nestled under lush cypress trees with breathtaking views of the Pacific coastline. This rustic cottage housed professors and their families in the early years of Scripps. Today it is used for corporate events, meetings, weddings, receptions, dinners, and private parties.
For further information on the Scripps Forum and Martin Johnson House rentals and to secure a reservation, contact Scripps Venue Rentals at (858) 534-5604. Contact Donna Shabkie if you need assistance with planning or running a Scripps event. Staff are available (for a fee) to help make an event special.
The Birch Aquarium at Scripps (BAS) is located on a high bluff and has one of the most dramatic ocean views in the area. For questions about using this venue, contact the Special Events Department or call (858) 822-5439.
