Alumni of Scripps Institution of Oceanography represent nearly 4,000 academics, scientists, communicators, policymakers, experts, and entrepreneurs that leverage their diverse backgrounds to advance innovative solutions. Their accomplishments reach far and wide, from education and environment to industry and innovation, and their impact spans the expanse of our planet, from deep oceans to deep space.
Many from our active alumni community stay connected each year, returning to meet and mentor students, speak at special events, pursue professional goals and continued education, and develop partnerships with faculty and researchers here at UC San Diego. Triton Leaders Conference 2024
February 2-3, 2024: Hosted by UC San Diego Alumni Engagement, the conference builds on past years' themes of advancing equity and allyship, with a specific focus on environmental justice in 2024. Conference organizers are currently curating a thoughtful lineup of experts working in various fields within the environmental justice landscape. Interested in presenting? Congratulations to Dr. Alfredo Giron Nava MS `16, PhD `19 for receiving the 2023 Emerging Leader Award – one of UC San Diego’s highest honors.
A humble powerhouse, Dr. Alfredo Giron Nava has co-founded two internationally recognized organizations: dataMares and the UN Early Career Ocean Professionals Programme, has over ten years of specialized experience applying sophisticated data and technology to ocean solutions in 15+ countries, and actively elevates the voices of fellow early career ocean professionals to a global stage.
"This is the perfect moment to be an early career ocean professional," he explains. "There are so many new collaborations popping up, there is so much energy behind supporting early career people to take leadership roles, to innovate with collaboration...it is just a very exciting moment".
