Caitlin Scully is the Communications Program Manager for ALERTCalifornia. ALERTCalifornia is a UC San Diego public safety program that provides state-of-the-art sensor technology to support data-driven decisions before, during and after wildfires.

Scully has a multifaceted background in which science communication has been the central theme. She specializes in the confluence of storytelling and marketing, and excels at disseminating complex research into engaging and meaningful content for the public.

Prior to joining ALERTCalifornia, she was a marketing specialist and spokesperson for Birch Aquarium at Scripps.

Scully has shared science stories, with great enthusiasm, as an educator and naturalist at Birch Aquarium, as the communications officer onboard the JOIDES Resolution ocean drilling research vessel, and as the outreach specialist for Bryce Canyon National Park. She has also worked on research projects focusing on bioacoustics and paleoclimate.
