Biography

Dr. d’Alpoim Guedes is an archaeologist who uses ancient plant remains to understand how human subsistence strategies changed over time and computational modeling to understand the impact of climate change on past human societies. Her primary region of focus is the Tibetan Plateau, where she directs a multi-disciplinary, National Science Foundation and National Geographic funded excavation project in the Jiuzhaigou National Park, Sichuan Province, China. 

In her lab, Dr. d’Alpoim Guedes analyzes archaeobotanical remains from a wide variety of world regions with a particular focus on Asia. Current research themes in our laboratory are the study of the origins and spread of agricultural systems in East Asia, South Asia, Thailand and the relationship between changing climate and changes in subsistence systems.
