Tran, Joshua
Graduate Student
Joshua Tran is a PhD student in the Gilbert Lab at UC San Diego. He earned his B.S. in Human Biology from UCSD in 2023, where he studied the gut microbiome–cancer axis under the mentorship of Drs. Jack Gilbert and Georgia Robins Sadler. His research focuses on how longitudinal dietary interventions reshape the gut microbiome and influence host immunity, metabolism, and inflammation. As a Fogarty UCGHI GloCal Fellow, he will spend a year in Vietnam collaborating with local researchers to develop low-cost, microbiome-based diagnostics for the early detection of colorectal cancer. His primary project investigates whether dietary changes following colonoscopy can reduce systemic inflammation and limit the proliferation of opportunistic pathogens associated with colonic polyp development.
