BIO

Megan Medina is an ecologist with a background in fisheries composition and biodiversity. As a Research Assistant at NOAA’s Office of National Marine Sanctuaries, she experienced firsthand the interactions and relationships among federal, state, and local governments which are needed to safeguard marine health and prosperity. Megan applied her breadth of knowledge on the sanctuaries' marine resources working with the Marine Biodiversity Observation Network (MBON) demonstration project to assess the status and trends of reef fish composition and biodiversity in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. Aware of the vital importance of sustained high-quality ocean observations and relaying digestible information to users Megan joined the Southern California Coastal Ocean Observing System (SCCOOS), the U.S. IOOS Regional Association serving Southern California. As SCCOOS Program Coordinator, Megan works to strengthen and sustain existing partnerships and cultivate new partnerships with state and federal decision-makers, the scientific community, and their stakeholders to co-develop value-added products to meet user needs.
