Designing an embedded system, or even a traditional DAQ system for that matter, starts with choosing the right development platform. More often than not, choosing which tools to use comes down to whether to build a custom solution or buy off-the-shelf tools. This technical seminar will briefly address the trade-offs between a custom design and NI off-the-shelf tools and then focus on available NI Reconfigurable Embedded Hardware Platform options and how to program them using NI LabVIEW.

The goal of the seminar is to enable researchers and engineering staff to select the right hardware for their application needs and to demonstrate the basic programming techniques required for this systems. Attendees are encouraged to contact ingo.foldvari@ni.com prior to the seminar, if they would like to see specific topics to be addressed.

In addition to the NI presentation Cyth Systems, a local NI Alliance Partner with an expertise in embedded control, will present on some of the projects (e.g. underwater UAVs) they have worked on for research institutions, and, Phil Bresnahan, Scripps PhD graduate and Senior Development Engineer with the Martz Lab will provide insights into his use of LabVIEW and NI Hardware in the lab.
