The Friends of the Collections participated in a “Breakfast with the Curators “ event on Thursday, August 13, 2015.  Members gathered at Scripps Oceanography to have breakfast with the Collections curators and learn about the latest additions to the collections as well as new projects we are working on. After the breakfast, the members toured the Oceanographic Collections at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego.

Members heard from Collections Curators Mark Ohman and Greg Rouse, along with Collections Managers Linsey Sala, Harim Cha, Alex Hangsterfer, and H.J. Walker about the process of preserving the specimens, identifying the specimens, and how the Collection is used to support research throughout Scripps.

The Friends of the Collections is a membership group that supports the Scripps Oceanographic Collections, which consist of our Geological, Benthic and Pelagic Invertebrates and the Marine Vertebrates Collections.  The support helps to maintain the millions of specimens, processing of new samples collected, outreach and education.
