Postdoctoral Research Opportunities

Postdoctoral Scholar Employee

We invite applications for a postdoctoral researcher to study upper ocean processes using a broad set of observational datasets. The successful applicant will have skills in oceanographic data analysis, signal processing and experience with one or more of the following: marine radar (X-band, high frequency, Doppler), surface wave sensing, and autonomous surface and underwater vehicles.

Experience in one or more of the following is desired: Fourier transform analysis (time and space), sampling theory, Hilbert transforms, signal filtering, inertial motion sensors and motion compensation, electro-magnetics, signal propagation, simple electronics, simple mechanical design. The project specifics will depend on the skill set and interests of the successful applicant. Available topics include wave-current interactions, wave attenuation in ice, air-sea interaction, and nonlinear internal waves. The successful applicant will have a desire to participate in coastal and seagoing experiments with the Coastal Observing Research and Development Center (CORDC) at Scripps Institution of Oceanography.

Required

  • A PhD in physical oceanography or other relevant field in science, engineering, or mathematics.
  • Research experience in a relevant field with contributions to refereed journal articles.

The position will be open until filled.

Applicants are asked to submit the following items electronically to Sophia Merrifield (smerrifield@ucsd.edu):

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Statement describing the applicants’ interest and appropriate skills for this position
