UC San Diego Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla joined an intimate crowd of local luminaries gathered on Saturday, March 9, 2013, at the La Jolla home of Michelle Ciccarelli and Bill Lerach to celebrate decades of support for social justice in the San Diego-Tijuana region. A key member of this special event was Marcy Krinsk, co-sponsor of the Krinsk Research Advancement Initiative at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, part of UC San Diego.

At the event, Chancellor Khosla announced a collaboration between UC San Diego's Center on Global Justice and the San Diego Foundation for Change (F4C) to advance regional cross-cultural efforts that will have global impacts seeking effective solutions to real human problems. The UC San Diego center focuses on local issues such as immigration, sustainability, and urban development. Chancellor Khosla highlighted the experience and strength of UCSD faculty leaders, such as Fonna Forman, and the value of the center's extraordinary graduate students, who are the lifeblood of the system that will create opportunities to implement significant social change. The event celebrated F4C's 30 years of support for social justice. F4C Executive Director John Fanestil and San Diego Mayor Bob Filner joined Chancellor Khosla in launching the collaboration that will have powerful and long-lasting impacts.
