World-renowned scientists from Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego have collaborated with UC San Diego Extension to offer a repeat session of their popular massive online open course (MOOC) on climate change. This course, Climate Change in Four Dimensions: Scientific, Policy, International, and Social, is free and available to the general public.
Enrollment is currently open for this 10-week MOOC, which begins April 8, 2014 and runs through June 10, 2014.
Climate Change in Four Dimensions addresses climate change from a variety of perspectives at the intersection of the natural sciences, technology, and the social sciences and humanities. The course will also introduce new topics currently confronting the science and policy communities, such as geoengineering.
A series of 19 video lectures given by distinguished UC San Diego professors Charles Kennel, Naomi Oreskes, Richard Somerville, and David Victor are the foundation of this course, with an additional presentation by Scripps climate and atmospheric scientist Veerabhadran Ramanathan.
There are no specific background requirements to enroll in this free no-credit course and everyone is welcome to participate. Professional certificate credit for this course is available for a nominal fee via a companion course offered directly by UC San Diego Extension.
More than 14,000 people participated in the first offering of this MOOC, which ran from Jan. 8, 2014 to Mar. 18, 2014.
