Legendary singers Peter Yarrow and Noel Paul Stookey of the folk trio Peter, Paul and Mary will perform a special Sept. 11 concert at Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego. The performance is part of the aquarium's 2010 Green Flash Concert Series, co-hosted by 102.1 KPRi FM.

Yarrow and Stookey — with bandmate Mary Travers, who died in 2009 after a battle with leukemia — comprised one of the most influential musical groups of the socially turbulent 1960s. Their popular songs such as "Blowin' in the Wind," "If I Had a Hammer" and "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?" became enduring anthems of the 1960s protest movement. Throughout their career, the trio won five Grammys, produced more than a dozen Top 40 hits — of which six ascended into the Top 10 — as well as eight gold and five platinum albums.

Tickets for this special performance range from $45-$100 with RSVP. Please note that prices for this concert differ from regular Green Flash Concerts. Doors open at 7 p.m. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. RSVP by calling 858-534-4109. For full details, visit the Green Flash Concert webpage.

The 2010 Green Flash Concert Series, which kicks off May 19, combines live music with panoramic ocean views on the aquarium's stunning outdoor tide-pool plaza. Savory dishes, craft beers and wines provided by Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery are available for purchase. Keep an eye out for a real "green flash," a rare optical phenomenon caused by refraction of light as the sun sets on the horizon. These unique monthly concerts are for music lovers ages 21 and older. Proceeds support exhibits and educational programming at Birch Aquarium at Scripps. Admission includes the concert, entrance to all aquarium exhibits and parking.
