Pink dye dissipates in waters south of the Imperial Beach Pier in Imperial Beach, Calif. Researchers released the dye as part of the Cross Surfzone/Inner-shelf Dye Exchange (CSIDE), an experiment to observe the exchange between a surfzone where waves break and an inner shelf, the shallow shelf just offshore of the surfzone.
