The commissioning at Broadway Pier drew several hundred guests including San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, Representatives Susan Davis and Scott Peters, and members of the California state legislature. America's newest research vessel begins its first research cruise on Nov. 4 and will provide what officials termed "environmental intelligence" to the Navy (which owns the vessel), the United States, and the world.
Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California San Diego, is one of the oldest, largest, and most important centers for global science research and education in the world.
