An "X" on the hull of R/V Sally Ride marks the spot where she will be christened Aug. 9, 2014 at a ceremony at the Dakota Creek Industries shipyard in Anacortes, Wash.  Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego, anticipates taking delivery of the vessel in mid-2015 and then field-testing the vessel and its instrumentation for several months afterward.
