Scripps Oceanography marine biologist Martin Tresguerres with transplanted coral at a field station in Bocas del Toro, Panama, Dec. 2015. Tresguerres and Scripps marine biologist Davey Kline reciprocally transplanted three species of Caribbean coral between a lagoonal and open ocean reef site to determine the impacts on the corals' photosynthesis and calcification at the cellular level. Sensors, including a SeapHOx unit developed by Scripps researcher Todd Martz at bottom right, measured environmental conditions including seawater acidity.
