Scripps Oceanography graduate student Jack Pan collects glacial ice samples at shore in Maxwell Bay near King Sejong Station in the Weddell Sea near Antarctica to investigate their optical properties in order to better understand glacial meltwater runoff in fjord ecosystems.

Researchers from the U.S. are currently on board of the Icebreaking Research Vessel ARAON (KOPRI) to study iceberg-driven processes in the Weddell Sea. The expedition also encompasses other projects that focus on coastal oceanography in Antarctica.
