Scientist Theresa Talley with Scripps Institution of Oceanography and California Sea Grant leads a group of UC San Diego students on a field trip to examine the coastal ecology of the Kendall-Frost Mission Bay Marsh Reserve.
The 21-acre preserve protects a portion of the wetlands that lined San Diego's Mission Bay before the region was extensively developed and which still provide important habitat and protection against erosion. Students and scientists at Scripps Oceanography have used the wetlands for education and research since 1942. Researchers have recently participated in city discussions about the future of the area in search of a balance between development and wetland preservation.
