An aerial view of the Nimitz Marine Facility (MarFac) pier during construction.

Work to revitalize the Point Loma facility that houses the Scripps Oceanography research fleet began in 2014 and was completed in March.

During construction, crews replaced a 48-year-old wharf, upgraded technology, and made structural improvements to facilitate loading and unloading operations.
