Testing of scientific support systems aboard R/V Sally Ride is charging ahead in preparation for initial Builder's Sea Trials in January 2016.
Among its many capable systems, Sally Ride features a mighty main crane designed to lift equipment anywhere on the work decks, and over the side of the ship. Here, the crane is shown successfully passing one of its lift tests, hoisting a 20,000-lb. water bag while extended to its full 70-foot reach.
Currently being constructed in Anacortes, WA, we anticipate delivery of the ship in April 2016, followed by a transition to operations period lasting until the first planned scientific research mission in November 2016 (for the CalCOFI program).
