Students in Brice Semmens' Marine Biology Laboratory class (SIO 136) had to be at sea for a 12-hour cruise during Saturday's March for Science, but they gathered on the rear deck of R/V Robert Gordon Sproul in a show of support.

Scripps Oceanography graduate student Natalya Gallo (visible in back with the sign that says "Ask Questions, Question Answers") organized the creation of the signs. Semmens is visible in the straw hat. The photo was originally posted on his lab's Facebook page.

The cruises in the waters off San Diego County introduce students to the instruments and processes used aboard oceanographic research vessels to study the biology of marine organisms.
