Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego postdoctoral researcher Yassir Eddebbar speaks at a Dec. 7 panel discussion at the international climate talks known this year as COP24. Eddebbar, a member of the Center for Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation at Scripps, and other panelists spoke on how action on sustainability goals can be scaled to up to include several countries through cooperation on ocean policies.
Ocean observations are crucial for agencies to implement policies and adaptation should be science-based, Eddebbar said at one of several COP24 events in which students and scientists from Scripps are taking part.
The 23 delegates from Scripps join nearly a dozen other researchers from the University of California to explore various climate policy topics at the two-week event in Katowice, Poland as part of the UC Revelle observer organization.
