The just-concluded COP21 climate conference in Paris hosted tens of thousands of negotiators, scientists, journalists, and advocates. Scripps Institution of Oceanography at University of California science is a fundamental reason why the international climate talks first began, with Scripps researchers ushering in the modern era of climate change research more than 50 years ago. This year, Scripps students and scientists were there to represent the latest ocean and climate science and convey that to negotiators creating a plan for climate action. The U.S. State Department hosted several panel discussions at the U.S. Center, a venue within the COP21 site. Among them was "A Deep Dive into Ocean and Climate Science" featuring Scripps students Yassir Eddebbar, Natalya Gallo, and Kaitlyn Lowder, and postdoctoral researcher Matt Siegfried as panelists.
