Trainee Publications

Our students are highly productive in their graduate studies and publish extensively in various scientific journals, including many of high impact.  Collectively, our trainees have published 156 scientific publications with their mentors during their graduate studies (on 22 of these, two or more trainees are co-authors).

Of our 30 trainees plus 2 program associated students who have published while a trainee during their PhD studies, all but our newest trainees have published in the scientific literature with the average of 4.9 per trainee and the range being 2 to 23.  It should be taken into account that these metrics are developed from a mixture of completed students and those that are still relatively early in their PhD training programs.

Our trainees have been successful in receiving a number of awards and fellowships, including a NOAA Knauss Fellowship, an HHMI Gilliam Fellowship, San Diego Fellowship (UCSD), and the Joint Genomes Institute (JGI) Director’s Fellowship.
