There are two mandatory campus security packages. Using our installers rather than the generic ones available from the campus site allows us to determine immediately that the agents have been installed on SIO systems. Otherwise, they get mixed in with all the other UC San Diego systems.

Anti-Malware (Trellix HX)

Features

  • Recognizes behaviors of ransomware and prevents it from encrypting files.
  • Allows the return of files to a known good state if the ransomware does somehow manage to encrypt files.
  • Available for macOS, Windows, Linux.
     

IGPP research groups should contact IGPP's Help Desk.

All other SIO groups can use these Trellix HX packages.

 

Note that for personal devices, Sophos Home for Windows, Mac or Linux is an option.

Vulnerability Detection (Qualys)

Features

  • Looks for older and vulnerable software packages.
  • Available for macOS, Windows, Linux, Solaris, ...

 

IGPP research groups should follow these instructions to install Qualys.

All other SIO groups can use these Qualys packages.

Adobe Professional

We are happy to announce that all SIO employees (both academic and staff) are now licensed for Adobe Professional DC.

Adobe Creative Cloud licensing is available for purchase upon request with the flexibility of licensing programs a-la-carte or the suite as a whole, depending on individual need.

Cisco VPN

VPN creates a virtual connection over public networks. Cisco VPN is required in order to connect to campus resources such libraries, systems, and servers.

CrashPlan

Features
Cloud backup solution that allows users to control backups of their system. CrashPlan backs up data automatically, with no user intervention required, and enables users to easily restore their own data.

Duo Two-Step Authentication

Login credentials are more important than ever as we remote work. Duo two-step login initiates once a user has entered their username and password. Two-step login increases account security be preventing anyone but the user from accessing their account, even if the password has been compromised.

Managed Lab Machine (MLM)

Managed Lab Machine Enrollment Form

Lab computers (computers attached to lab equipment) without any user management or Linux desktop computers. Scripps IT will ensure that the managed computer will remain in compliance with UCSD Network Security Standards by installing routine security patches, firewall management and attending to virus abatement.

The following services will be provided on a per machine monthly charge:

Included at no extra charge for enrolled Lab Managed Machines

Firewall and Log Monitoring

Includes configuration of host-based firewall and central log monitoring

Including scheduling installation, reboots and roll backs

Note: MLM enrollment is paid by an individual lab, PI, or group. Additionally, user permissions are set (and vary) by group.  It is recommended that users exercise caution and ensure software is from a reputable source prior to installation.
 
Matlab

Language, apps, and built-in math functions enable users to explore multiple approaches to arrive at a solution.

SIO participates in Microsoft's Campus And School Agreement (CASA). All SIO employees (both academic and staff) are licensed to install the Microsoft Office desktop applications for free.
