BI Section Tips

  • Start early!
  • Consult with Scripps Educational Alliances or other campus entities (e.g., UCSD Center for Research on Educational Equity, Assessment and Teaching Excellence (CREATE))
  • Collaborate, ideally for the long term; leverage existing programs with a broad reach and robust infrastructure
  • Include a letter of collaboration from your BI provider using the required NSF format
  • Leverage existing NSF programs and/or focus on NSF priorities (e.g., workforce development)
  • Clearly articulate the goals/desired outcomes of your broader impacts activity(s)  
  • Allocate appropriate funds 
  • Include metrics of success and a dissemination plan as appropriate
  • Use the Facilities, Equipment and other Resources section of the proposal to provide more detailed information on your broader impact collaborator(s)
  • When in doubt, talk to the program officer
